Rayane Pacheco Costa

I am a postdoctoral research associate with the INFRACURSIONS project, focusing on geospatial intelligence, including remote sensing, GIS, and spatial analytics. My role involves data handling to examine spatial patterns and the relationships between incursion economies—specifically land grabbing, illegal gold mining, and logging—and historical factors. This work aims to identify elements to deepen our understanding of these economies’ dynamics and their impact on deforestation across the Amazonian frontier of Bolivia, Brazil and Peru.

With a background in environmental modelling and management, I completed my PhD at the University of Minas Gerais (Brazil), where I explored key challenges in implementing the country’s main native vegetation conservation policy on private land. I also have a broader interest in using data visualization to generate insights that support conservation efforts, sustainable land use, and forest restoration strategies.
